GrowHER Greens
The GrowHer project empowers women transitioning from incarceration by providing hands-on training in gardening, landscaping, and sustainable agriculture. This initiative fosters self-sufficiency, environmental stewardship, and personal growth while offering opportunities for skill development and employment. GrowHer transforms lives and communities by cultivating resilience and creating pathways to independence.
The GrowHer project, based on a 5-acre property in Claxton, Georgia, is designed to empower formerly incarcerated women by providing hands-on training in gardening, landscaping, and sustainable agriculture. This initiative addresses the critical need for skill development, employment opportunities, and reintegration support for women transitioning from incarceration to independence.
The purpose of GrowHer is to create a holistic, healing-centered environment where women can develop practical skills while reconnecting with nature. Participants will learn sustainable farming practices, cultivate fresh produce, and engage in landscaping projects, equipping them with marketable skills for careers in agriculture, horticulture, and environmental sustainability. Additionally, the program offers workshops on entrepreneurship, enabling participants to explore opportunities such as managing community gardens, selling produce, or starting landscaping businesses.
This project also addresses food insecurity by cultivating fresh, locally grown produce for participants and the surrounding community. Through this initiative, GrowHer not only helps women build self-sufficiency but also strengthens community connections and fosters a culture of environmental stewardship.
By addressing barriers such as unemployment, stigma, and lack of resources, GrowHer aims to reduce recidivism and promote long-term stability. The 5-acre property provides ample space for learning, growth, and community engagement, transforming it into a sanctuary where women can rebuild their lives. With a focus on empowerment, sustainability, and community impact, GrowHer is paving the way for a brighter future for both its participants and the broader community.
