Project Sowing Seeds
Welcome to Project Sowing Seeds: Food Gardening with Justice in Mind, a specialized food gardening project for women reintegrating from prison This program emphasizes personal growth, community connections, and equity.
In project Sowing Seeds., RHH participants collaborate to learn about food cultivation, examine their ties to the land and food systems, and develop leadership within their communities. They discover the significant impact of food gardening on providing their families and communities with fresh, affordable produce, while also gaining resilience, confidence, and a sense of connection through this age-old practice.
Our current food system faces sustainability challenges, disproportionately affecting people of color and those with lower incomes. Issues such as hunger, diet-related diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease, unsafe working conditions for food and farm workers, inadequate compensation, and the struggle of small-scale farmers against large agribusiness are all exacerbated by climate change. Women are increasingly conscious of the implications of food insecurity, climate change, and systemic racism.
Amidst these challenges, it's common for young people to feel anxious, a sentiment that has intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Project Sowing Seeds aims to alleviate these anxieties by fostering a supportive environment where the women learn that impactful changes don't require overwhelming efforts. Instead, engaging in activities that align with their strengths and interests can be fulfilling and effective.
